Government-backed boiler scheme is still available for qualifying properties

Around 40% of people worry about how they will afford to pay for their energy bills. This number is only likely to increase since there is an increased number of people applying for Universal Credit due to Coronavirus pandemic. The loss of income and more time spend at home is likely to increase the number of people worrying about how they will be able to afford their energy bills.
Boiler grants when in receipt of Universal Credit
Since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic there had been an increased demand for Universal Credit. DWP estimates they have received around 3 million individual applications for Universal Credit. The silver lining is that Universal Credit recipients now eligible for ECO funding.
Qualifying low income and vulnerable households that receive benefits can qualify for the underfloor insulation and boiler grant under the ECO scheme.
Can I receive a free boiler under the ECO scheme?
If you a homeowner in receipt of qualifying benefits, you have suspended floor at your property, and your boiler is older than six years you might be eligible for a free boiler.
The amount of funding available is based on the type of property you own. In the majority of cases, no contribution is needed. However, in some cases, a small contribution is required.

To qualify for an ECO funding, you have to receive one of these benefits:

Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
Income Related Employment Support Allowance
Income-Based Jobseekers Allowance
Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
War Pensions Mobility Supplement
*Child benefit is the only benefit that has income cap. The income cap will depend if you have single or joint claim and how many children you are claiming it for.
