Why do I need to receive benefits to qualify for an Insulation Grant?

The whole point on the ECO grants is to assist people who are unlikely to pay for insulation in their home privately because of the associated costs. While many of us may argue about where the line should be drawn to define these low-income households, the UK Government decides how to identify these households, and chooses a list of qualifying benefits.

In some cases, some benefits that qualified under ECO 3 have not appeared as a qualifying benefit for ECO 4, while Housing Benefit is a new addition for the current ECO insulation scheme.

What about the energy performance of my home?

Whether you live in a house or a flat, whether you’re a tenant or a homeowner, your home will likely already have had an EPC conducted on it. An Energy Performance Certificate is issued when a qualified DEA (Domestic Energy Assessor) surveys your home and uses a formula to calculate an energy performance score based on the features of your home.

The ECO grant insulation funding is designed to be awarded to homes where it will have the most impact, so if your home has an EPC of either E, F or G but it can be shown to have the potential of a C or above, then theres that improves your eligibility.

If it is deemed that sufficient improvements cannot be made then funding may not be available.
