Internal Wall Insulation

In the United Kingdom, homeowners are increasingly turning to internal wall insulation as a solution to improve energy efficiency and create more comfortable living spaces. Internal wall insulation not only helps reduce heat loss but also enhances the overall thermal performance of a property, particularly in older homes with solid walls.

Understanding Internal Wall Insulation

Internal wall insulation involves adding insulation material to the interior walls of a property. This process helps to retain heat within the building, reducing energy consumption and cutting down on heating costs. In older properties, especially those with solid walls that lack a cavity, internal insulation can significantly enhance thermal efficiency.

Benefits of Internal Wall Insulation

  • Improved Energy Efficiency: By reducing heat loss through walls, internal insulation lowers the demand for heating, resulting in lower energy bills. The temperature of the property will warm up a lot quicker.

  • Enhanced Comfort: Insulated walls can help maintain a consistent indoor temperature, reducing cold spots and drafts, thus improving overall comfort.

  • Condensation Control: Insulation can mitigate issues related to condensation by keeping interior wall surfaces warmer.

  • Preservation of Interior Space: Unlike external insulation, internal insulation does not alter the external appearance of the property or require planning permission in most cases.

Key Considerations for UK Homes

  • Type of Property: Internal insulation is suitable for properties with solid walls or where external insulation isn't feasible due to planning restrictions or aesthetic concerns.

  • Insulation Materials: Common options include rigid foam boards, stud wall with insulation, or insulated plasterboard. The choice depends on factors like thickness and thermal performance.

  • Professional Installation: Proper installation is critical for effectiveness. Hire qualified installers who understand UK building regulations and standards.

  • Moisture Management: Ensure that the insulation system includes measures to prevent moisture buildup, which can lead to damp and mold.

Installation Process

  • Preparation: Clear the walls of obstructions and address any damp issues.

  • Installation: Fix insulation materials securely to the walls, ensuring joints are properly sealed to minimize heat loss.

  • Finishing: Apply plaster or drywall over the insulation for a smooth finish.

Internal wall insulation presents an effective and practical solution for enhancing energy efficiency and comfort in UK homes. By understanding the benefits, considerations, and installation process outlined in this article, homeowners can make informed decisions to create more sustainable living spaces while reducing energy costs. Embrace the potential of internal wall insulation to transform your home into a cozy and eco-friendly retreat.

Systems

Under the ECO scheme we have funding available for qualifying properties to insulate internally the external walls of the property. There are 3 systems available, SWIP, Wetherby, Superfoil and Ezy-fit. They all involve battening out the wall and adding insulation. On the ECO scheme our internal wall insulation systems come with a 25 year insurance backed guarantee as standard. All windows boards, outlets, skirting boards and radiators are removed and refitted by our experienced, time served, electricians, plumbers and joiners. Once completed each system has a fresh plastered finish ready for decoration.
