How does the ECO 3 boiler funding work?

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a government energy efficiency scheme in Great Britain that is set up to help reduce carbon emissions and tackle fuel poverty. Under the ECO scheme, medium and large energy suppliers have to fund British households’ energy efficiency measures.

Under the scheme, you might be entitled to get your boiler replaced, your floor insulated, and a smart heating thermostat installed.

Do I qualify for a free boiler grant?
The ECO boiler funding is free, and you don't have to pay it back. However, it is essential to note that the ECO scheme does not necessarily offer grants to cover a new boiler’s whole cost. In many cases, the property will qualify for the total amount of funding. However, in some cases, a contribution is required to carry out the work.
