PAS2035: The whole-house approach. Can I still get a boiler grant?

The government-backed boiler scheme is changing. From July, the ECO installers are committed to offering a Whole House Retrofit. The Whole House Retrofit is a complete approach to make properties more energy efficient.

What does the Whole-House Retrofit mean?

Whole House Retrofit is a complete approach to make properties more energy efficient. All houses are different, and our role will be to identify the works that can be carried out in your property to make it more energy-efficient. You don’t have to carry out all the suggested works at the same time. However, it creates a road map for your property to be as energy-efficient as possible.

Insulation and boiler grants

You can still qualify for boiler replacement and the underfloor insulation grants. However, what measures are suitable will be based on doing the whole house retrofit plan. You don’t have to get all the measures at the same time./

Can you get a free boiler?

To qualify for the boiler grant, you have to be a homeowner, receive benefits, and your boiler must be older than six years. However, the funding available is based not on the benefits you receive but on the property you have.  Each property is given a score, and based on that score, an amount of funding is calculated. Therefore, we would need to carry out a no-obligation survey to see if you would require a contribution. In many cases, a boiler will be free. However, sometimes a contribution is required.

The grant is free, and you will not need to pay it back. However, as mentioned before, you might need to pay towards the cost of the works carried out at your property.

Can you get a free boiler if you are on benefits?

The following benefits can qualify you for the boiler grant:

Armed Forces Independence Payment

Attendance Allowance

Carer's Allowance

Child Benefit*

Child Tax Credit

Constant Attendance Allowance

Disability Living Allowance (DLA)

Income Related Employment Support Allowance

Income Support

Income-Based Jobseekers Allowance

Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit

Pension Guarantee Credit

Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

The amount of funding you will be awarded will be based on the property that you own. Therefore, in many cases, the boiler will be free, but sometimes a contribution is required. We pride ourselves in being transparent and offer our customers a no-obligation free survey—no hidden costs.
